Fall equinox

Fall Leaves 2 For Web Uncropped

Today is the fall equinox, when we all experience an equal 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night. I’ve been able to feel the shift this week. Even though it’s gonna get dark (and fast) in the northern hemisphere, fall is my favorite time of year.

Autumn Fires

Robert Louis Stevenson

In the other gardens
And all up in the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
   See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over,
   And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
   The grey smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!
   Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
   Fires in the fall!

I only recently really learned what an equinox actually is (thanks NASA) as well as the moon phases. September’s full moon is known as the harvest moon and will be here next week.

I’ll soon be lighting our fire, jackets on for cold walks home from school, dark amber beer in my mug.

Fall, my favorite!
