July has flown by, and there has been so much new music, I don’t think I’ve caught up (and I’m still listening to Tribez. nonstop). I love you, summertime. Here are my favorite albums (new and old) from July 2023.
Portugal. The Man – Chris Black Changed My Life
This is the 9th album from this band and the first one that I’ve really dug into. I think I need to go back and listen to more.
Portugal. The Man has been my soundtrack for July.
Nick Drake – The Endless Coloured Ways: The Songs of Nick Drake
I love what I’ve heard of Nick Drake, but I confess that I’m not that familiar with his catalog. This amazing compilation, “a collection of 32 of the musician’s most essential catalog entries reimagined by various artists” has blown me away.
Disclosure – Alchemy
The latest from one of my favorite dance artists does not disappoint. Non-stop energy.
Louis VI – EARTHLING
New-to-me artist. A producer, rapper, and multi-instrumentalist (similar in some ways to Black Milk, who is also on this list). Great vibe on this.
Jazz is Dead 18 – Tony Allen
The latest in the Jazz is Dead series features the Nigerian jazz and afrobeat legend, Tony Allen. Check out this list of Tony Allen: 5 Essential Albums for more:
Black Milk – Everybody Good?
One of the best and most underrated MC/producers is finally back after a long hiatus. Sounding better than ever.
Other albums that found their way to me (and stayed) this month:
I love discovering new music and hope sharing my finds inspires you to check out something different (and support the artists you love). Happy listening. ✌️
