My year of reading

12.16 Year of reading

I set out at the beginning of 2023 with the aim that it would be my YEAR OF READING; a single theme that I wanted to focus on instead of my typical monthly goal setting. I picked it because, surprise, I love reading, and just as much as that, I love how reading makes me feel.

The goal theme was simple. Basically, I tried to make a point of reading books every day, sticking with whatever I found most interesting and quitting any book for any reason. Notice I didn’t say FINISH books or read a SET NUMBER of books. Just read and enjoy it, that’s it.

And I did it. I read over 40 books last year (easily the most I’ve read in any year that I can remember). I didn’t finish all of them, but a bunch of them I did. While I love reading on a Kindle, I also got reacquainted with physical books (mostly via my local library) and was surprised at how nice it was to flick through real pages again.

All in all, I can’t emphasize enough how nice it was to read daily and give myself permission to read whatever I wanted to at the time.

Here is the list of most of the books I read this year (or am still reading) from Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/103554426-phil-severson?shelf=2023

I’m planning to keep this habit up in the new year and expect to read more books, but who’s counting? 😉

I recently re-discovered the joys of reading by using my library card for myself for a change. (I initially signed up for my library card just to get books for my kids.)

This was what I needed to get me back into a habit of reading. I must admit your blog was one of the things that re-ignited the spark for me to read books again 😀

    1. Awesome, that’s so nice to hear. Great, isn’t it?😉
