“For this song, it was more like putting a soundtrack to the film I had in my head,” says Hiromi on the song. “When the landscape changes, then different music comes in — different restaurant, different style. Ramen is a true source of inspiration and I respect the ramen artisans so much so I finally wrote a song about it.”

Here are my favorite albums from April, enjoy!
Hiromi – OUT THERE
This jazz/pop/pianist is on her 13th album, but this is the first one for me. It’s crazy, loud, and amazing.
Joe Armon-Jones – All the Quiet (Part I)
This is part 1 of a double-album from a member of Ezra Collective. I love the fusion of jazz, afrobeat, and reggae. Can’t wait for part 2.
DJ Koze – Music Can Hear Us
Everything DJ Koze touches is special, and this one creeps up on you. It’s electronic music that does so much with so little that it feels like magic. Amazing morning and night tunes.
Blu & August Fanon – Forty
I’m very picky about my hip-hop these days, and although I don’t jam on everything Blu puts out, he is easily (EASILY) one of my favorite MCs and is on a tear recently. The production on this one is sooooo gooood. Grown folks rap.
Footshooter – The Oasis
New-to-me electronic producer who put out this album that is blowing me away. Sounds classic and new all at once.
Raw Poetic – The Flow of Time
I’ve had Raw Poetic on my list before, and his work with long-time collaborator Damu the Fudgemunk too (check Laminated Skies). There is something about the existential and introspective lyrics and deft production on his albums that sets them apart.
Other albums that found their way to me (and stayed) this month:
- Tunde Adebimpe – Thee Black Boltz
- Garrett T. Capps – Life Is Strange
- The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble – Gemini
- Kaidi Tatham – Miles Away
- Beirut – A Study of Losses
I love discovering new music and hope sharing my finds inspires you to check out something different (and support the artists you love). Happy listening. ✌️
