Notes from the trail 04.12

After running a marathon, moving house, spring break, and going down with some evil sickness, I’ve been a bit slow to get back up to my usual running cadence and distance this month, but I’m back on it this weekend.

I’ve been surprised at how cool it can be in North Carolina, even as we are well into April. It was in the low 40s today, and lows were in the upper 30s earlier this week. Given how hot it gets in the summer, I expected it to be warmer at this point in the year, but I’m trying to enjoy it. The cool mornings make for great running weather. I’ve definitely needed my hat and gloves, though.

EVERYTHING gets covered in pollen in the spring here

Another thing that’s been crazy to experience is the pollen season (which is still ongoing), especially the pine pollen, which coats everything in a bright green/yellow dust that is thick enough to look like snow. It’s gross and unlike anything I’ve seen, but a small price to pay for the beauty of all these trees everywhere.
