“Ratatouille” exemplifies this shift toward unmitigated optimism. Vashi speeds up a 1980s Bollywood-esque melody—think lovers dancing in a field in springtime—till it warps into something darker. Midway through the song, Heems rhymes “Ay yo I’m on antidepressants” with “I’m feeling good man, I’m eating lettuce.” A few bars later, he raps, “Life is beautiful, I’m looking at flowers/I’m feeling like I got superpowers.” – Pitchfork
Here are the albums that provided me with a soundtrack to getting comfy in my new digs in North Carolina this month. 😉
Heems – VEENA
Heems released another album (LAFANDAR) that made my list in February this year, and this one does it as well, maybe even more. The production is unique (but also bangin’), and the rhymes are irreverent (but memorable as hell). It’s funny and dope and sad and all that and then some.
Jack White – Untitled
I don’t know if I like Jack White the person, and some of his music is meh, but wow, this is a barnburner. Respect.
Futurebirds – Easy Company
I think the hot North Carolina summer has made me like this band even more. Classic American rock music.
Fabiano Do Nascimento – Olhos D’água
Incredible morning music for me. He also put out another album this year (The Room) that is equally impressive and that I had on my February list.
Other albums that found their way to me (and stayed) this month:
- Revival Season – Golden Age Of Self Snitching
- TiRon & Ayomari – The Adventures of TiRon & Ayomari
- Delicate Steve – Delicate Steve Sings
- Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio – A Shade Of Blue
I love discovering new music and hope sharing my finds inspires you to check out something different (and support the artists you love). Happy listening. ✌️
