You sure? I’m sure (happy anniversary) ❤️

Today is the 6th wedding anniversary for my wife and me. Those years have been all the things you might expect me to say: beautiful, challenging, melancholy, exciting. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

A little tidbit from that day we laugh about often is when our Hawaiian officiant (we got married in Oahu), his name was Piula, got to this part in the ceremony:

Piula: “Do you take this man to be your husband?”

My wife: “Sure.”

Me thinking: Sure?!!!?! 🤯

That was my wife’s answer to that question. Sure! I don’t think many in the small audience at the time could hear it due to the wind and my 2-year-old daughter’s crying. It was an inside joke between us, as she generally despises the word “sure”. She thinks it is too weak and noncommittal. She was trolling me because I use the word all the time.

For example, my wife might ask, “Would you like some (non-dairy) cheese with your eggs?” “Sure,” I’ll say after a little delay.

“By sure, you mean not really?” she’ll add with annoyance. Setting aside the fact that non-dairy cheese is always a no, I get her point. I used to use it all the time when we first met and would like to think I don’t as much anymore, but I’m sure I’m fooling myself. 😃

As in all relationships, decisions, or even non-dairy cheese, you’ll never be 100% sure. Forget about being sure and just go for it.

Happy anniversary to my lovely wife. May you always be sure. ♥️
