Turning on the Scottish

Portrait of Sam and I in black and white.

Both my son and daughter have turned a corner now and are “playing” with the Scottish accent, turning it on when they want to, emulating their classmates at school, and giving my wife and I a good laugh.

Here is my daughter Vivi’s samples:

Here are my son Sam’s samples:

Ok so they have a long way to go but they are on the path I think. I, on the other hand, couldn’t turn it on if I wanted to.

Here is my (crap) sample:

Regardless of how crap the example above is, I am told that I am getting a bit of the “ooh” sound in my words and at the end of my sentences, as described in How I speak with a Scottish accent, but the kids put me to shame. It will be fun to see how things change a year from now. 󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

  1. The recordings made me smile 😆

    1. Hehe, glad to hear it! 😃

  2. Pretty lame attempts Nick – especially by you – still sound like a Wyoming transplant!!

    1. Definitely, but I’ll have you know I had someone ask me about my accent today on a call. They actually said it was beautiful. I know what you are thinking and I agree, I want some of what they are smoking as well. 🤪
