Flea, Aaron Shaw, Blu & Exile, and more of my favorite albums from April 2026

This month was a bit of a blur. I went to Istanbul for a week. I was sick for a week. Music still kept me company. There were some pleasant musical surprises for me, in particular the three albums mentioned in the title. Flea!? So many great jazz and jazzy dance-adjacent instrumental albums this year, that one included. Enjoy, and let me know what I might have missed.

Flea – Honora

A jazz album from Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers? I’ll bite. So good and such a surprise.

Aaron Shaw – And So It Is

Really cool jazz album. Shades of Pharoah Sanders.

Blu & Exile – Time Heals Everything

The fifth album from these two and one of their best.

Champagne Bubblebath – Mixtape: Volume One

Fantastic name for a great band. Check out the instrumental cover of Spodieottiedopaliscious.

Adrian Younge – Younge

I love this. From Bandcamp: “Younge is Adrian Younge’s magnum opus: an orchestral album written from a hip hop producer’s perspective, and a hip hop record composed with the discipline of classical and cinematic music.”

Bellaire – Born Funky

Never heard of Bellaire, but I like this a lot. Funky house music.

Other albums that I’ve been jamming to:

Remember to support the artists you love, and if you want to peruse some of the previous new music posts from this year, do it!
