Barry Can’t Swim, Loaded Honey, and more of my favorite albums from June and July 2025

Loaded Honey

“If Jungle was for sort of Friday nights, then Loaded Honey for Sunday mornings.”

J Lloyd (member of Jungle and Loaded Honey)

I missed posting my favorite albums last month, so this is a double-feature of what I’ve been listening to while on sabbatical. I’ve got a LOT in here to share as I probably had more time than usual to comb through music, and I’ve probably left some off that I’ll add back later. My ear has been bending to a lot of jazz/electronic/soul music of late, but I still am on the hip-hop train and the occasional indie rock, ambient, and country kicks too.

Here are my favorite albums from June and July, enjoy!

Barry Can’t Swim – Loner

New (to me, this is their second album though) electronic artist who reminds me of Bonobo, Four Tet, and Jamie XX. This album is phenomenal.

Loaded Honey – Love Made Trees

Side project from members of Jungle. So cool and happy and soulful. One my favorite albums of the year.

Open Mike Eagle – Neighborhood Gods Unlimited

Low-key beats and rhymes from an artist who has such great taste with everything they do. Gets better with each listen.

Jazz Is Dead – Dom Salvador JID024

Love this series and this entry in particular.

Kokoroko – Tuff Times Never Last

This jazz crew doesn’t miss.

Dam Swindle – Open

Electronic dance music and surprisingly soulful and jazzy. So good.

A/S/L – Live From Selby

Another electronic artist I’ve really been digging.

Hayden Pedigo – I’ll Be Waving As You Drive Away

Instrumental guitar music that feels like a perfect soundtrack for most anything.

WheelUp – Inner Light

Cool electronic jazz fusion sound here reminding me of Nicolay.

Greg Foat & Forest Law – Midnight Wave

Greg Foat is one of my favorite jazz musicians. This one is so good.

Midnight Generation – Tender Love

Dance music with soul.

Robert Glasper – Let Go

Really beautiful ambient/soul/jazz album perfect for early mornings and late nights.

Facta – GULP

Great electronic music to drive around to.

Yuno – Blest

Great pop/rock jamz.

Leroi Conroy – A Tiger’s Tale

Funky soul instrumental music.

Suzallo – The Quiet Year

Rock music that’s got a bit of a retro 90s feel. Love it!

Chris Lake – Chemistry

Electronic dance/trance gem.

JJ Whitefield – Off The Grid

Instrumental guitar and beats.

Clipse – Let God Sort Em Out

Ridiculous raps and beats that bump = best played as loud as possible.

Kenn Starr & Kev Brown – COLD

Good hip-hop.

Eric Hilton – Midnight Ragas

Just like the title suggest, chilled out lowfi beats.

I love discovering new music and hope sharing my finds inspires you to check out something different (and support the artists you love). Happy listening. ✌️
