Maribou State found inspiration for this new track by listening to some of the UK’s well-loved artists including the likes of David Bowie, The Beatles, The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and many more. “We invited all our friends down and got them to sing the main hook, “do that for you”, in the stairwell of the house.” –

Here are the albums that inspired me this past month.
Maribou State – Blackoak
This group is new to me, but they’ve been around for more than a minute and fit right into that Four Tet/Bonobo spot that straddles chilled-out beats and more upbeat dance music. This EP is one of my favorite listens all year.
EARTHGANG – RIP Human Art
Love the title. This Atlanta duo reminds me of another duo from the same city as they don’t seem to have any limits. All their songs have a bounce to them.
Lol Torhurst X Budgie X Jacknife Lee – Los Angeles
Three legendary drummers get together to make an instrumental album, but all their friends want to be involved too, and they end up with a wildly energetic ensemble cast that reaches sonic glory. This is nothing but fire, and it gets better the louder it is.
Lusine – Long Light
Somewhere between ambient and melodic electronic music, this album has been the soundtrack to many of my mornings.
Keys N Krates – IN:TENSION
Another great title. This is just plain banging house music and so much fun.
Other albums that found their way to me (and stayed) this month:
- Earl Sweatshirt & The Alchemist – VOIR DIRE
- Black Pumas – Chronicles of a Diamond
- André 3000 – New Blue Sun
- Kareem Ali – The Color of Sound
- Joe Armon-Jones – Archetype
- Sofia Kourtesis – Madres
I love discovering new music and hope sharing my finds inspires you to check out something different (and support the artists you love). Happy listening. ✌️
