Last week marked the first fire of the season in our wood-burning stove (aka my favorite appliance in our house). If I had my way, we would have had the thing lit since October 1st (like last year), but my wife is more sensible and suggested that maybe we wait a bit longer this year and let our wood go a bit further. Fine, but when we did light it, we all gathered around and watched it in the dark. It was brilliant.
