My favorite albums of August 2022

02. Danger Mouse Black Thought by Shervin Lainez

I love finding new music and I hope this list helps you discover something new too.

For me, a “good music” month means new material from my favorite artists and new (to me) artists in equal measure. By that definition, August was a poster child.

Here are my favorite albums and other musical discoveries from August.

Black Thought and Danger Mouse – Cheat Codes

Hip-hop at it’s finest. My favorite album of the year so far. An instant classic. Do I need to say more?

Kokoroko – Could We Be More

Elegant and beautiful jazz on this debut album that breaths equal parts Stevie Wonder and Fela Kuti.

Hot Chip – Freakout/Release

One of my favorite bands brings a louder and edgier (for them) sound. I’m a fan of this one.

Panda Bear & Sonic Boom – Reset

Do you like Pet Sounds? If the Beach Boys were now they would sound like this. Psychedelics inspired pop in all its glory. Check out this video (loud).

DOMi & JD BECK – NOT TiGHT

These two are super young jazz phenoms who have both Herbie Hancock and Busta Rhymes on their debut album. Whaaaat? Yeah, it’s awesome. (Madvillany Tribute video below!!)

Honorable mentions

Tobe Nwigwe – moMINTs

The Musalini & Khrysis – Pure IZM

Florist – (self-titled)

Rebecca Vasmant – Dance Yourself Free

Robert Glasper & Miles Davis – Everything’s Beautiful – released back in 2016 and I somehow missed it!
